Tired of Hide and Seek?

Ever wanted to figure out what font was being used by a certain publication, corporation, or ad campaign? Ever needed to tweak an outsourced design or image but couldn’t remember who designed the piece and had no idea what font they used? Ever needed to tweak your own design and couldn’t remember what font you chose? It happens to the best of us. Not only can it be frustrating but you can easily end up wasting the better part of a day searching the web, browsing through font libraries, and posting questions on forums. It can feel like a quest for the proverbial needle in a haystack or a twisted Where’s Waldo puzzle.

When this happens to me, my favorite starting place is WhatTheFont. WhatTheFont’s font recognition system is a free web tool which helps users discover the names of some of the web’s most popular fonts. Fonts can be analyzed via a website URL or by uploading a scanned image of the font. Within seconds, WhatTheFont will provide several font samples that most closely resemble the sample you provided. Easy to use, WhatTheFont is the perfect service for all of you designers and web publishers out there looking to find the name of that elusive font you’ve been dying to use. If WhatTheFont can’t figure it out, you can always submit your image to the WhatTheFont Forum and someone will help you out.

WhatTheFont supports most common image formats. These include .gif, .jpeg, .tiff, and .bmp. The maximum image size is around 360 x 275 pixels. Ideally, the letter height should be around 100 pixels, the text should be horizontal and the letters should not be touching. WhatTheFont only recognizes uppercase and lowercase letters.

Don’t tell Dr. Seuss I wrote this; he may just roll over in his grave with the poorly written trochaic tetrameter rhyme that follows. Find Font Try Font Buy Font My Font. They really can do it all.
